The University of Tartu’s podcast for prospective international students, “Tiksu to UniTartu”, is back this summer with a second season. Designed to share insights and practical tips, the podcast supports future international students in settling in at the University of Tartu.

As last year, the host is Vincent Arata, a University of Tartu alumnus from the USA. New episodes will be released every Tuesday throughout the summer.

The podcast continues to serve as a valuable communication channel for future international students, addressing common questions and concerns around moving to Estonia – such as finding accommodation, learning Estonian, and navigating student life. Its aim is to make the transition to life in Estonia as smooth as possible.

The name “Tiksu to UniTartu” is inspired by the university’s beloved mascot, Tiksu, and the Estonian word tiksuma, which, in slang, means to hang out or relax with friends. The podcast seeks to be a friendly, informative space where future students feel both welcomed and supported.

Tailored especially for newly admitted students and applicants, each episode explores a different aspect of life at the University of Tartu, offering useful guidance for anyone planning to study abroad. Listeners will also hear firsthand experiences and personal stories from current students about their university journey.

Topics covered in season 2 include:

  • Budgeting hacks every student should know
  • How to make friends (and keep them)
  • Balancing studies, work and social life
  • My experience as a foreign Estonian
  • Must-see festivals and traditions

Season 2 launched on 27 May.

The opening episode features an engaging conversation with two current students – Elsa Till Hillis from the USA and Natavan Aliyeva from Azerbaijan – as they share their journeys of discovering and studying at the University of Tartu.

This season, the podcast is available in both audio and video formats, so you can tune in however you prefer. “Tiksu To UniTartu” can be found on Spotify , Apple Podcasts, and YouTube
